After being frustrated at 3D Coat's internal rendering tools I decided to give Marmoset a try. Last time I tried it I didn't get the results I wanted, but this time something just clicked and I'm sticking with it. It supports exporting sculptures straight out of 3D Coat and many other programs, and even supports vertex colors. No need for retopo at all! I still kinda miss the ability to use different paint layers for different stuff, like specularity etc, but for now I'm very content with this one.
